Ro Sham Bo Student Council RO SHAM BO - Rules ❖Game Duration: Monday, September 15th - Friday, September 19th ❖When to Play: Do not leave a class or interrupt a teacher to play! ❖How the Game Works: ➢All students, teachers, and staff will receive Purple beads on Monday during 2nd Period. ➢You will challenge others to one game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. ➢If you lose you will give one strand of beads to your opponent. ➢In order to play, you must wear your beads all week. ➢You can buy back in with Mrs. Gumb for $1.00 during 5th period, Lunch, Horn Time, or Passing Periods! You are then back in the game! (You can only buy $5 at a time.) ➢On Friday, during the Homecoming Pep Rally, the students or teachers/staff with the most beads will be asked to go on stage for a final Rock, Paper, Scissors Showdown! ➢The winner will receive a SURPRISE GIFT!!!

Homecoming Dates There is a list in the office window if you see your name your dance forms for out of town dates are done! If you have an out of town date and don't see your name ask Kaylee.
Out Of Town Date Forms Out of town date forms are in the office for homecoming. Please get forms turned in by end of day on Friday the 19th.
Homecoming Thursday and Friday On Thursday 9/18/2025 for periods 6 - Horn Time we will do an all school activity hosted by student council!! On Friday 9/19/2025 we will run a 2pm dismissal schedule. We will have all classes then head up town for our pep rally!

FCCLA DLC Students who are attending FCCLA DLC on October 15th need to sign up with Miss Cain by September 18th.

Final MAP Test On Tuesday Sept 23 we will have our final MAP tests 9th and 10th Grade will test Science with Mr. Stolzer in the library 2nd and 3rd period. 7th and 8th Grade will test Science with Mr. Stolzer in the library 4th and 5th period.
The Bill of Rights "The first ten amendments to the Constitution, known as the Bill of Rights, were ratified in 1791. They protect essential freedoms—including speech, religion, press, assembly, and the right to petition the government."
Wednesday, September 17th is Constitution Day. Stop into the library Monday – Friday this week to participate in a little Constitution Day Challenge. See how well you know the Preamble to the Constitution. Each student may take the challenge once per day this week and can win a prize each day.
Longhorn Support Day Our Longhorn Support Day is right around the corner. On Monday Sept 29th the list of students who need to attend school will come out. Reminder to stay off the list the following must be met. No D's or F's for quarter grades. No Office Referrals. No more than 5 total tardies. No unexcused absences.
VFW Patriot's Pen The Patriot's Pen is open to 6th-, 7th- and 8th-grade students who are interested in writing a 300-400 word essay on "How Are You Showing Patriotism And Support For Our Country?" https://www.vfw.org/-/media/VFWSite/Files/Community/Youth-and-Education/Patriots-Pen-Entry-Form-Fillable.pdf?v=1&d=20190308T165518Z&la=en Entries are due to Miss Cain by October 15th.
Public Speaking Contest Students in grades 6-12 who are interested in the American Legion Oratorical Contest Program should contact Miss Cain by October 24th so they are prepared for the District 6 contest on November 8th in Kearney. Students in grades 6-8 will deliver a scripted speech on Amendment IV in a 3-5 minute presentation. Students in 9-12 will give a memorized prepared speech that is 8-10 minutes and then a 3-5 minute assigned topic speech. The program provides great scholarship money opportunities and at the state level it $2,000 in cash prizes and national is up to $25,000 in cash awards. Burwell has had over 30 years of students doing this program.
VFW Voice of Democracy Contest The theme for the 2025-26 Voice of Democracy contest is "How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?". Students in grades 9-12 will write a 3-5 minute speech and record it. The script should be edited to fit the proper writing style. The national first-place winner receives a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient's American university, college, or vocational/technical school. A complete list of other national scholarships ranges from $1,000-$15,000, and the first-place winner from each VFW Department (state) wins a minimum scholarship of $1,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. Ord College Fair - Juniors and Seniors will be attending the Ord College Fair on Thursday, October 9th, from 9-10 am to visit with over 35 colleges and military reps. Students must register for a barcode before attending http://www.strivefair.com. If you have any questions, please let Miss T. know.
Apply2College - Seniors, now is the time to apply to your top college(s). Your goal is to have applied to your top college(s) by Oct 31st.
